Operation Reconnect’ IGP Satyajit Nayak hands over 200 recovered mobile phones to owners in Jajpur

JAJPUR: In a major citizen-centric initiative, Jajpur Police has returned 200 stolen and missing mobile phones (100 mobiles phones in Operation Reconnect1 in month of March,2026)to their rightful owners under its special drive “Operation Reconnect”. The recovered devices were formally handed over to the owners by Dr Satyajit Nayak, Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack, in the presence of Yash Pratap Shrimal, Superintendent of Police, Jajpur, and other senior police officers. The initiative is aimed at making police services more responsive and strengthening technology-enabled investigation into complaints relating to lost and stolen mobile phones. Police personnel used systematic tracing mechanisms to locate the devices and subsequently carried out detailed verification to establish the ownership of each phone before handing them back to the complainants. The recovery of the mobile phones is expected to provide considerable relief to the victims, as smartphones today contain valuable personal information, contacts, photographs, documents and access to various digital services. The operation followed a structured process involving registration of complaints, technical tracing, recovery of the devices, verification of ownership and their formal return to the respective owners. The initiative also underlines the growing role of technology in policing, particularly in tracing lost or stolen digital devices. IG Nayak Said Police said such efforts would continue to encourage citizens to report missing or stolen phones promptly and help police take timely action for their recovery. The “Operation Reconnect” initiative is also intended to strengthen public confidence in the police by delivering a tangible service to citizens. The successful return of 200 phones was described by the police as “200 phones, 200 reconnections and countless smiles”, reflecting the human dimension of property recovery. Jajpur Police reiterated its commitment to citizen service, digital safety, technology-driven investigation and protection of public property, while stressing the importance of police-public cooperation in combating theft and other forms of cyber-enabled crime
